Then we asked ourselves: who actually benefits from that?
The Problem with Licensing
Poker tournament software is used in clubs, pubs, home games, and community events. Many of these are run by volunteers. Adding licensing complexity — activation keys, online verification, feature gates — creates friction for the people who need the software most.
We looked at the licensing code we had written: key generation, validation middleware, grace periods, offline activation flows. It was hundreds of lines of code that existed solely to prevent people from using features they needed.
The Decision
We removed it all. Every line. The entire licensing module — gone.
